PUPPETEERING BASICS, with Marc Berg — Learn core performance techniques across a variety of different puppetry styles including bunraku, hand & rod, and shadow. Hands-on, guided instruction operating puppets from past PCT shows. Over 3 hours, you’ll gain a solid, foundational understanding of multiple puppetry techniques that you can use to build upon and experiment with in your own projects.

FUNDAMENTALS OF MIME, with Thalia Kostman — After guided warm-ups, including instruction on proper body isolations and undulations, you’ll engage in mime-specific exercises and performance techniques. These exercises will include holding onto points in space, building and releasing tension, and breaking up / isolating your movements. Over 2 hours, these exercises will be done as a group, before being given individual prompts to each work on and share with the group at the end.

LARGE-SCALE PUPPETEERING, with Marc Berg — Learn how to not only perform, but to design and construct large-scale puppets using unconventional materials on a budget. Gain insight on how to achieve eye-popping scale while keeping it manageable (and safe). Both wearable and externally-operated puppets of varying levels of complexity will be covered. For the first 2 hours, get hands-on, guided instruction operating large-scale puppets (from former PCT productions as well aspuppets designed and built by Marc for past Stages Theatre Company & Theater Mu productions). Then, for the last hour, take a guided tour through the construction and materials used in these big puppets, as well as a breakdown of the workflow for such a project.
